Sport Fishing & Water Activities in Los Cabos

Fishing SwimsuitLos Cabos is popularly known as the Marlin Capital of the world - More striped marlin are caught recreationally in this Mexican tourist mecca of Cabo San Lucas than anywhere else in the world. Why? Calm waters, near-to-land Pacific shelf, perfect weather and year-round migrations. It's no wonder Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo hosts several yearly fishing competitions like Bisbee´s Black & Blue Tournament, Stars & Strips and the Los Cabos Bill Fish tournament. Both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean have great fishing spots known by local fishermen, who have spent their lives at sea, most come from a long line of local legendary fishermen in the region. Both the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez are an amazing, plentiful playground for marine life no matter the time of year.

Los Cabos has two different Marinas that service Sport Fishing Charters:

Marina Cabo San Lucas offers a full service boatyard and a 75-ton travel lift for vessels of up to 80 feet. This facility is used to provide maintenance, repairs, renovations or upgrades. Located at the heart of Cabo San Lucas Downtown and surrounded by restaurants and shops it makes it the perfect spot for morning exercise or evening stroll. Some people actually just love to sit at a bar and enjoy as the sun sets that reveals incredible views of this Marina.

San Jose del Cabo is a smaller port however, there is no lack of seasoned, long-term fishing charters here. Many know the Sea of Cortez and have experience with marlin, dorado, snapper, mackrel and many other fish. You'll be sure to snag some dinner in San Jose!

Gordo Bank's Sport FishingGordo Banks Pangas has been mannd by Eric Brictson since he came to San Jose del Cabo in 1985. If you are wondering what a "panga" is it is a smaller open top boat, usually anywhere fro 12ft to 22ft long. Some have outboards and some center counsel driving with canvas"bimini" roofs to protect you from the elements. These are great fishing boats, have comfortable seating, very safe and very affordable for both full and half-day trips. True, hardcore fishing at it's finest. These pangas are meticulously maintained for maximum performance, reliability and safety.

Fati Sport FishingFati Sportfishing has a long history in Los Cabos. This is a family bsuiness started by the grandfather Senor Macario Aripez that goes back over 40 years fishing in the Sea of Cortez. During this time came a new marina and the sea has changed but they have not. This famil approaches fishing with care and respect for every aspect of the business: the boats and fishing gear, the fish they catch, the people who fish with us, and the ocean from which we make their living.

Cabo Fishing Charters

There are tons of Fishing Charter Companies ranging from small 2 people cruisers (Pangas) to Million-Dollar Luxury Yachts. A fishing day normally starts early morning at around 7:00 am, some companies will provide Box Lunches and Beverages if requested in advance, or they will stop on the way out at the Marina Store where you can purchase goods. Bringing your own cooler is always accepted. Most companies will also provide fishing licenses the day before or jsut before boarding and bait is purchased before you get there or on your way out of the marina (it's a cool experience too). From there you are off to a great day of fishing, depending on what you want to catch (or the season) the Captain and Crew will take you to their best spots, nobody guarantees a catch, but they will always strive their best to make it happen for you.

Catch and release of species is enforced by federal law and Captains as well, so if your catch does not meet regulation weight/size specifications you will be asked to release it back, a limit of 1 Marlin per boat is permitted. Depending on your Charter Provider and the length of the trip you selected there may be extra time to go snorkeling, kayaking and maybe even wave runners too. All of this must be requested prior to your trip and may be available only with some providers. At the end of the day you will be brought back to the marina where you can select a restaurant to have your catch cooked for you and enjoy refreshments with friends and family. The cost of your trip will depend on the number of participants and the boat you select; it is customary to leave a gratuity of 20% for the Captain and Crew in cash.
